Avoid that Dam Ice!
The winter of 2010-2011 was a record breaker for ice dams. Ice dams form when your roof experiences a melting/freezing cycle of accumulated snow on the roof. A well ventilated roof (with ridge vents and soffit vents) is the best way to avoid ice dams. Good ventilation helps the roof stays cold and the melting of accumulated snow is avoided. Rake that Dam Ice!
Removing snow from your roof helps minimize damage from ice dams. A "roof rake" is a handy device that you can get at your local Home Improvement store. They are light, plastic rakes that have 15 foot extension poles that allow you to pull snow off your roof. They cost about $50. Get to the store early! Roof rakes sell out before Christmas in the NorthEast. Good website for more info http://www.icedamprevention.org/
Diamonds are forever (unless they get lost or stolen).
Some lucky women will be receiving diamonds and gold at the Holidays from wannabe husbands and husbands hoping to exit the dog-house. Be sure to call your agent to add the jewelry to your policy. It only costs about $16 to insure a $1,000 piece of jewelry in case it is lost or stolen...and no deductible applies if it is listed on your policy. Give us a call!
College kids home for the Holidays?
Make sure your college kids are listed on your Auto policy if they return home from college for the Holidays. Some folks remove kids that go to college out of state. Make sure they are listed on your policy before you hand over the keys. Give us a call!
Get those AA batteries out!!!
Make sure to put fresh batteries in your smoke detectors. It's a great idea to put fresh batteries in when we turn the clocks back/forward for Daylight Savings. Holidays candles look (and smell) nice but be careful!! Make sure your smoke detectors work. No holiday dinner is complete without the smoke alarm going off when the rolls burn in the oven.
