It sounds pretty obvious, but it's worth repeating. Using your blinkers when changing lanes (or turning) greatly reduces the likelihood of an accident.

A few weeks ago while driving home from Boston, I was stuck in traffic on the Mass Pike. Believe it or not, I don't mind driving in traffic. That's when I get a lot of my best thinking done. About twenty minutes into the drive I was nearly hit by another driver who was turning into my lane. Thankfully, the other driver put on their blinker prior to changing lanes! The split second heads up gave me enough time to hit the brakes and avoid an accident. I was tempted to honk my horn, but the other driver quickly gave an apologetic wave.
We both went on our merry way, and I got a lot of good thinking done.
Use yah blinkah, kid. It's a no brainah.
