Your recreational vehicle gives you the freedom to explore new destinations, spend time outdoors, and create lasting memories with family and friends. Whether you own a motorhome, travel trailer, fifth-wheel camper, or another type of recreational vehicle, the right insurance can help protect your vehicle, belongings, and finances when the unexpected happens.
At Dolan & Maloney Insurance Agency, we help RV owners in Westborough and throughout Massachusetts explore coverage options tailored to how they travel, where they store their vehicle, and the type of RV they own.

  • Class A, Class B, and Class C motorhomes
  • Travel trailers
  • Fifth-wheel campers
  • Pop-up campers
  • Camper vans
  • Truck campers

RV Coverage Designed Around You
The coverage appropriate for a weekend camper may be different from the coverage needed by someone who travels for several months or lives in an RV full time. Important factors may include:
  • The RV’s type, age, and value
  • How frequently it is used
  • Where it is stored
  • Whether it is financed
  • The value of personal belongings carried inside
  • Whether it is used seasonally or as a full-time residence
  • The destinations and distances typically traveled
As an independent insurance agency, Dolan & Maloney can compare options from multiple insurance companies and help you find coverage suited to your vehicle, travel habits, and budget.

Recreational Insurance FAQ

DISCLAIMER: This FAQ is designed to provide helpful, general information. Because every policy and situation is different, nothing here should be considered specific coverage advice or a guarantee that coverage will apply. Your actual coverage is determined by the terms, conditions, exclusions, endorsements, limits, and other provisions of your policy, along with any applicable laws or regulations.

Do I need separate insurance for a recreational vehicle?

Sometimes yes and sometimes no; it depends on the type of recreational vehicle. However, for protection and insurability, it is often best to separate your risks into individual policies. Assume you own a home and insure a snowmobile and a small boat on the policy. You run into bad luck and have a handful of claims on the boat, and the homeowner policy cancels everything. When that happens, you scramble to find coverage for your home, your snowmobiles, and your boat, whereas if each were on its own policy, the losses typically impact one policy instead of all policies.

One other aspect for consideration. Companies that write policies specifically for recreational vehicles have more experience and expertise in settling claims associated with those vehicles.

What does motorhome insurance usually include?

Motorhome insurance may include liability, collision, comprehensive, medical payments, and coverage for belongings kept inside the vehicle. Additional options may include roadside assistance or temporary lodging, and possibly premises liability coverage to cover losses that happen when the vehicle is parked at a campground or in a park.

Are campers covered while being towed?

As with all coverage, it depends on the loss. Nearly all Massachusetts personal auto policies extend liability coverage to the vehicle they are towing, but that does not mean physical damage coverage is also extended. Normally, the camper will need to listed as a vehicle on the policy and specifically purchase collision and comprehensive coverage.

Keep in mind that this only pertains to while the camper is being towed. Once the camper is disconnected from the vehicle or is stationary, the liability coverage from the towing vehicles auto policy may end.

What does boat liability insurance cover?

Boat liability insurance can help pay for injuries or property damage you cause while operating your boat. It may also help with certain legal expenses after a covered accident on the water.

Is ATV insurance required?

ATV insurance requirements depend on the state, where the ATV is ridden, whether it is financed or if you have extended liability policies such as an umbrella policy that require a minimum level of insurance on all underlying risks. Even when it is not required in Massachusetts, coverage can help protect against accidents, theft, and liability claims.

Does Jet Ski insurance cover accidental damage?

If you are asking about damage suffered by the Jet Ski itself, an insurance policy may cover the accidental damage if collision coverage is included in the policy. Comprehensive coverage may also help with theft, fire, vandalism, or certain weather-related losses. However, if you are referring to covered accidental damage to someone else’s property, typically the policy will have liability coverage which would cover such losses.

Can snowmobile insurance cover injuries?

Snowmobile insurance may include medical payments coverage for injuries to you or your passengers after a covered accident. Liability coverage can also help if another person is injured because of your snowmobile use. However, liability coverage may only cover those injuries sustained by someone not riding the snowmobile which means there could be a gap in protection for passengers.

Does recreational vehicle insurance cover weather damage?

Comprehensive coverage may help pay for damage caused by certain storms, hail, wind, fire, or falling objects. The exact protection depends on the policy and the risks common around New England.

Can I insure more than one recreational vehicle?

Yes, many insurance companies allow you to insure multiple recreational vehicles. This could include a boat, camper, ATV, motorhome, Jet Ski, or snowmobile under separate policies or through the same carrier.

When should I review my recreational insurance?

A good rule of thumb is to always read over you coverage each year and have the policies reviewed every three to five years. It is also recommended to conduct a review after buying new equipment, making upgrades, or changing how the vehicle is used. Owners in Westborough or anywhere in Massachusetts may also want to review coverage before the start of the main boating, camping, or riding season just to make sure the coverage is at the vehicle operation level.
